A few memories of the past century. Enjoy the video….
100 years….
It began when our parents, grandparents, greatgrandparents, left their villages and towns to find a better life in America. For most of us from Aliquippa, PA, the village was Patrica, Italy.
They worked to make a life, not knowing the language well. They continued traditions from Patrica, and their families.
In 1925, they brought their loved Festa di San Rocco to Aliquippa. For themselves to be able to continue honoring their patron saint, but also to leave a heritage and tradition for generations to come, even those to be born who they would never meet.
Walking through the cemetary in Patrica, the surnames are all that one would know and remember when living in Aliquippa. We each have a connection to the town, and we are all related in some way to one another.
We are grateful to the Founding Fathers for their initiative to ignite the tradition here, for us to know, to cherish and to pass down to future generations.
San Rocco isn’t about any one person or family, its about the town, Patrica. Continuing our stewardship of the San Rocco Festa, connect us with the town and all ancestors who walked before our time.
100 years… where did the time go?
